A Model of Jewish Tomb From the 1st-Century AD, Judea

The body, wrapped in a burial cloths, was placed on a corpse shelf inside a burial cave. After about a year, when natural decomposition had occurred, the bones were collected and placed in an ossuary for a second burial. Ossuaries were kept in loculi.

The Ossuary of Miriam, Granddaughter of Caiaphas, Priest of Ma'aziah

This remarkable ossuary, found in Judea, has a very long inscription with  detailed information that Caiapha was a High Priest from Ma'aziah division. According to the Book of Chronicles the 24 descendants of Aaron were divided into 24 priestly divisions for service in the Temple. The 24th division was the division of Ma'aziah.

The Richly Decorated Ossuary of Joseph, son of Caiaphas

The bones of several individuals were found in this ossuary. It suggests a family tomb of Caiaphas.

Alexander, Son of Simon from Cyrene

The Ossuary of Alexander, son of Simon, Alexander the Cyrenian. From Mk 15:21 it is known that Simon from Cyrene was the father of Alexander. It is highly probable that the ossuary of Alexander had been found in Jerusalem.
