Many synagogues from the 1st century AD have been archaeologicaly discovered including those in Chorazin, Capernaum and in Magdala (Photo).

Under the 4th-century ruins of synagogue in Chorazin, the floor of an older synagogue from the time of Jesus has been discovered.

→ The Synagogue in Capernaum

The synagogue in Capernaum, located very close to Peter's house of (where Jesus cures the Peter's mother-in-law) was built of black basalt vulcanic rock.

→ Stone Table from Synagogue in Magdala

The Stone Table was used to place the scrolls of the Old Testament after reading. The adjacent coins are two sides of prutah minted by Herod Antipas.

Jesus taught that the scribes and Pharisees sat on the Moses' Chair, giving teachings in the synagogues (Mt 23:1-2)
